Training Through the Summer Months
This is the time of year where many parents are wondering the same thing— are there classes through the summer?
Of course, the answer is a resounding YES. Our classes run year-round, only breaking for holidays, back-to-school week, and following the school calendar for spring and fall break.
Why these breaks? We want to be a priority for all students, and anyone striving for a black belt needs to make Kung Fu a priority. but we should not be the top priority for anyone. Why not? We recognize that family needs to come first. Many of us are here to take care of ourselves so we can better take care of those around us. Family should always be first.
We want our students to succeed, and we put real thought and intention into every decision. One of the best ways to support your child or help yourself in Kung Fu is to build healthy, sustainable habits, including coming to classes consistently. It is tough for a child or adult to return to classes after an extended absence and see how their peers have progressed when they have not. It’s a blow to the confidence, and self-confidence is the last thing we want to rattle.
We encourage our students and our instructors to spend time with family, taking trips or holidays. But we also recognize how hard it is when a student is gone for two months. To be honest, when a parent pulls their child for the summer, fully intending to return in the fall, we know there is a better than 50% chance that the child will not return, or will quit within a few months of returning. It is hard to bounce back when you’ve fallen behind. Not because the material is harder or the ability is less, but because it’s hard not to compare yourself to the progress of others, which is unfair when a child is gone for two months.
If this is a decision you’re pondering, talk to us. Of course, we will support you as a parent or student in any way we can.
