I Ho Chuan Requirements
Silent River Kung Fu's I Ho Chuan is a six-month mentorship program thoughtfully designed to provide extra support and guidance for students aged 8 to 14 and their parents, helping to maximize each child’s progress, confidence, and long-term success.
The requirements of every member of Silent River Kung Fu’s I Ho Chuan are:
Daily Goals:
-
Failure is only final when you stop trying, and building lifelong skills is never a success-only journey. All students will, hopefully, experience many setbacks and failures along their path, because that shows they are attempting new and difficult things and growing from the process.
-
These daily actions build so much more than muscle — they forge discipline, sharpen time management, encourage steady daily engagement, and cultivate growing pride and confidence with each rep. Small, consistent actions compound over time and add up to significant accomplishments.
-
Mastery in any area of life requires a strong, disciplined eye for detail. Committing to a single form and exploring it deeply over time is what will develop a student’s keen eye for those subtle details.
-
Students will have the opportunity to learn new, less widely known weapon forms, providing a fresh way to stimulate growth and sustain engagement.
-
Every child and adult should understand the many benefits of reading. It not only stimulates new learning but also builds fresh neural pathways that help improve critical thinking, reduce stress, and deepen empathy.
-
By logging 1000 acts of kindness, you will become more aware of the difference you make in your world through your choices and actions. Most of us practice acts of kindness unconsciously and attribute them to good manners. Mindfully recording your daily acts of kindness will make you more aware of the impact you are having on others and also make you aware of the opportunities to make a difference that you are missing.
-
The only way to move forward is with a clear, concise understanding of where you are now. Regularly recording details will help a student notice patterns, recognize strengths and pitfalls, and steadily increase their awareness throughout the day.
Monthly Goals
-
We strive to teach all students, especially children, practical methods and thoughtful strategies that will help them confidently achieve the goals they set for themselves. This Journal collects and presents all of these concepts together in an age-appropriate, easy-to-understand manner.
-
New forms, new classes, new expectations — it can all feel overwhelming at first. Regular one-on-one sessions with mentors will help keep students on track, build confidence in their abilities, and keep them motivated to strive for ever higher achievements.
-
We recognize much of a child’s success is due to their parents’ commitment, and we also understand there are times when other priorities must take precedence. When this happens, please reach out to your instructors BEFORE missing class to let them know what is going on. We never judge your reasons; we simply want to know how we can best support our students.
-
Success in anything is directly tied to the time and commitment invested in it. Regular attendance and active engagement in a student's core class are essential to achieving success in the I Ho Chuan program.

Yearly Goals
-
Empathy is critical for success in the martial arts, and Silent River Kung Fu strives to teach empathy often through the Silent River Benevolent Foundation. It is not about the money raised but the lessons we learn while talking about those in need — whether people, pets, or even wolves — and the ways those conversations deepen our compassion, responsibility, and shared humanity.
-
Having an event such as a performance to work toward is a powerful motivator. In addition, students should take pride in presenting to their friends and family the visible fruits of all their hard work and dedication.
-
Oftentimes, the things we really want or need on a personal level get pushed to the side in response to more immediate priorities. Students are encouraged to use the I Ho Chuan program to put themselves first, setting meaningful personal goals that truly resonate with them. This can feel like a vague, even harrowing task, so we have narrowed the focus down to two practical areas:
Learn something new.
Set a clear goal involving your family, pets, or home life.
