The Five Animals and the Tiger Challenge

First and foremost- The very last day to sign up for the Tiger Challenge will be Thursday, May 22. You can sign up here.

Every student can name the five animals of Kung Fu. Some can even name a few extra (panda, monkey, tigress…). But what many of you don’t know is that you belong to one of the five animals teams of Silent River Kung Fu.

Each animal represents a specific quality needed to excel in Kung Fu.

  • Crane- Stamina

  • Dragon- Spirit

  • Leopard- Speed/Detxerity

  • Snake- Toughening of the bones and tendons

  • Tiger- Strength

You may have seen the blackbelts and even a few students walking around with coloured badges on their right leg. These tell you which team they each belong to.

  • Crane- White

  • Dragon- Red

  • Leopard- Blue

  • Snake- Green

  • Tiger- Yellow

So how does this affect you? Well, as I mentioned, you’ve all been assigned to one of the five teams. If by chance you were born in the year of the Dragon, Snake or Tiger, then you will automatically be assigned to that animal. If not, then you were assigned randomly.

Now, what do we do with these teams within our school? These… houses, of sorts…

THATS RIGHT! Starting with this years’ Annual Tiger Challenge, we will be holding a school wide competition, complete with points awarded to individuals for such things as participation in school events, excelling at your core curriculum, earning your Wude stripe (green) in meaningful ways, earning Chih stars…

The leading team will have its plaque displayed within the Kwoon for all to see and admire, UNTIL another team takes the lead.

At the end of the year at our Chinese New Year’s Banquet, we will announce the overall winner for the year.

If you want to know who is on your team, check out your fellow classmates right leg.

Eventually, each student will receive their patch to place on their leg. For now, we will be limiting it to just the participants of the Tiger Challenge. Once our stock of these coveted badges is refreshed, then each student will receive one. If you want multiple, say, for multiple pairs of pants, they will be available to purchase after the Tiger Challenge.

In the meantime, SIGN UP FOR THE TIGER CHALLENGE. Again, the very last day to sign up will be Thursday, May 22.
