This is our motto, and one of the lessons on which we base our classes. We want our students to thrive in class as well as in school, on the job and at home. In addition, we also want to bring the benefits of training in the Kwoon online, so they are accessible to everyone 24/7.

Our website is chock-full of resources, articles, information on upcoming events, necessary forms or documents and updates on our classes.

Our menu is simple;

Programs- Information on each of the programs we offer, including the kids and adult classes and specialty classes like the I Ho Chuan and Tai Chi.

Students- this is where all our resources are for our students. You must be an active member of the school and of Memberspace (easy application when you click on this menu item) to access this. It is not accessible to the general public, so ensure you apply for Memberspace asap.

Inside Our Events page;

This will give you a calendar view of all our scheduled events. Hover over any day with an event and you will see a synopsis, or click on the day and you will be taken to a page dedicated to that event, including information or links to relevant forms. If viewing from a phone, you may have to tap once to see the synopsis and double tap to navigate to the applicable page.

Inside the Students page (Memberspace);

From here, you have several portals you can enter, each aimed at a different group of people inside the school. You may belong to multiple groups.

Kwoon News- meant for everyone, parents and students alike.

Announcements- such as upcoming events, changes to the school or procedures, etc.

Latest Articles- all articles relevant to the entire school body

Upcoming Events- yet another way to see all upcoming events, presented in list form instead of on a calendar. Click on any one of them and it will lead you to the corresponding page for each event (including links to relevant forms or documents).

Livestream Resources- everything to do with online training.

Live Class Zoom Links- this is how you watch your kids’ classes or your own classes live. Requires you have the Zoom app.

One on One Appointment Bookings- are your instructors constantly hounding you about booking one on ones for questions and extra training? Here is where that happens. Pick the instructor you wish to have a one on one with and you will be able to view and book a time with them. Each appointment is 10 minutes in duration.

Livestream Lessons- online videos for out of class consumption. There are videos on just about every topic we can think of when it comes to your in class training; forms, techniques, stances, applications, weapons, lion dancing… so tell me, what do you want to work on today?

Livestream Lessons Table of Contents- handy dandy way to find the lesson you are looking for. This was kindly put together for us by one of you, our students.

Kwoon Talk Community- a portal into our online chat forum, Kwoon Talk. You can ask questions here, see conversations amongst your peers, quickly get in contact with your instructors. Requires a membership to WhatsApp.

Parent Resources- Parents, you need to be accessing this area.

Announcements and Articles- these may or may not be duplicated in the Kwoon News area, so make sure to be frequently checking these because these all pertain to you.

Class Re-Caps- ever wonder what we’re doing with your kids in class? These weekly posts give you an idea of what you child is working on.

Resources- by far the most requested area of the website when we receive a request for help. This is where you will find important documents including the INTENT TO PROMOTE LETTER. Parents, you need to ensure you have access to this area.

If you are clicking on the Student menu and none of this is accessible to you, then you need to click on Your Account to get you started.

The remaining portals (I Ho Chuan Resources, Black Belt Resources, Instructor Resources, Staff Resources, Standards Council Resources) are available for specific groups within our school. If you have made it this far and do not have access to any of the others, don’t worry. If you’re supposed to be in any of the other groups, you already are.

SRKF Leadership

Saturday’s banquet was a great way to bring in the lunar new year. I hope everyone is able to take advantage of all the opportunities  the  Year of the Dragon affords.

The production of this year’s banquet was truly the result of teamwork. From the dedication of our dragon and lion dancers to the hard work of our I Ho Chuan team — teamwork created one of the best banquets we have ever produced.  Special recognition must go out to our masters of ceremony, Sihing Sharida Csillag and Sihing Kayley Burke, for keeping the program running smoothly and efficiently. I would also be remiss if I did not highlight the extraordinary work that Sihing Yitzik Csillag and Sihing Kevin Lindstrom did in preparing our Dragon Dance and Lion Dance teams. The banquet also marked the debut of Todai Malinda Ferris on the drum and performing their first ever lion dance, Todai Owen Johnstone and Todai Reed Kaufman.  Everyone’s effort and dedication created an amazing result.

There were many accolades for Silent River Kung Fu students who really shone in 2023. Sihing Sharida Csillag earned her 2nd degree black belt and Sihing Jackie Kohut and Todai Logan Smith were recognized as Black Belt of the Year and Student of the Year respectively.  Our Zhang Fei award recipients were Luka Tracy from the Lil Leopards, Vincent Verhey of the Tiny Tigers, Caleb Stewart of the Level 1 Young Dragons, and Kasidee Derkson of the Level 2 Young Dragons. Liu Bei award recipients were Chyler Jarrell of the Lil Leopards, Nora Johnson of the Tiny Tigers, Olivia Esch of the Level 1 Young Dragons, and Jaxon Skjerven of the Level 2 Young Dragons.  Michele Ward was recognized with the Kwan Kung award for the school’s best attendance record.

The highlight of the banquet was the promotions of Michele Ward and Jordan Carreau to the rank of black belt.  This promotion was the culmination of a year-long black belt test.  Along with their I Ho Chuan classmates, their  banquet presentations were exciting and inspiring.

There was an announcement on Saturday night that may have got lost in all of the excitement. With the unanimous support of the Silent River Kung Fu Master Instructors, Sifu Khona Rybak is officially the Chief Instructor of Silent River Kung Fu.  This expands her role from Program Director of the Young Dragon Program as she takes on the additional responsibilities of running the day to day of the school and, with the continued guidance and support from myself, Sifu Hayes, and Sifu Dennis —  Sifu Rybak will develop and enforce all promotion standards, including all ranks of Black Belt awarded by Silent River Kung Fu.

Acts of Kindness Week - Feb 11-17

In an effort to show our students how even the smallest acts of kindness can incite positive change, we have created a school wide challenge as part of National Acts of Kindness Week taking place this year from Sunday February 11 to Saturday February 17.

Although most of us already practice acts of kindness, we tend to do them unconsciously and attribute them to good manners. By mindfully recording our daily acts of kindness we become more aware of the impact we are having on others and also more aware of the opportunities we might be missing.

To help us be more mindful of our Acts of Kindness, we have created a Kindness Bingo Challenge with various AOKs that students can try to complete throughout the week. We encourage students to try and get a full line, an X, or even better, a full bingo blackout!

We will be handing out the Bingo sheets at the Kwoon, but have also included a link below in case you need to print another. Links to colouring pages and the “6 Kindness Concepts” can be found below as well.

Initiatives such as this are our most important. Kung Fu isn’t just about kicking and punching. It’s not just about what we do in class, but what we do and how we impact the world beyond the Kwoon walls. We know this concept as Wude (pronounced Woo-dah), which translates to martial morality. It embodies what we try to teach our students and what we try to practice in our everyday lives. Because Wude is such a key concept in our school’s intelligent curriculum, initiatives like this are also opportunities for our students to earn their green stripe.

SRKF 2024 Silent Auction

We are very excited to announce this years online Silent Auction!

Every year, as part of our Chinese New Year celebration, we organize a silent auction to raise awareness and support for various charities through the Silent River Benevolent Foundation where every penny raised goes directly to our charities.

When is it?

The online auction will go live on Saturday February 3 at 7:00am and will close on Sunday February 11 at 11:00am.

How do I participate?

You can access the online auction using the following link or QR code (see below). Please note that all participants will be required to register in order to place bids. An access code will also be required to view the items.

How do I pay for items I win?

All payments are to be made via e-transfer to silentriverkungfu@me.ca. Payments will need to be received prior to pickup. When sending payment, please ensure to include the registered bidders name and the item lot number in the message section of your e-transfer.

Unfortunately, neither credit card nor cash can be accepted. Please note that items cannot be released without payment.

When and where do I pickup any items I win?

Items will be available for pickup at the Kwoon during specified times throughout the week following the auction. These pickup timeslots will be announced at a later date. When picking up your items you will need confirmation of payment, the registered bidders name and the item lot number. Unless special arrangements have been made, items left unclaimed for more than 7 days will become the property of SRKF. In this event, the next highest bidder may be contacted or the item will be sold, with proceeds going to SRBF.
